Tourism and Wildlife Partnership launches the Lincolnshire Bird Trail, the first birding trail of its kind in the UK.

Visit Lincolnshire today extended an invitation to nature lovers across the UK to come to Lincolnshire and experience the very best that the County has to offer.

With its wide-open landscapes, long sweeping coastline and the unspoilt rolling hills of the Wolds, Lincolnshire is home to a diverse range of habitats.

The Lincolnshire Bird Trail brings together a suite of the County’s finest birdwatching sites to showcase just how good an area Lincolnshire is for birdwatching, linking key birdwatching sites and allowing visitors to plan ahead to get the most out of any visit.

The County has been split into a number of coherent trails and the first one – covering the amazing Lincolnshire Coast has gone live on the visit Lincolnshire website and is ready to be showcased to hundreds at the Global Bird Fair this weekend.

Mary Powell from Visit Lincolnshire said “With a county bird list of 405 species Lincolnshire is one of the best, but also arguably one of the most under-watched, counties for birding in the UK.

“We have always been keen to showcase the amazing nature and landscapes that Lincolnshire has to offer but we are particularly delighted to be working with a range of local wildlife partners to highlight the sites that they manage and link that to our existing tourism services.

“For the first time, we have brought everything you need to plan the perfect wildlife break in Lincolnshire into one place on our website.”

Charlotte Phillips from the Greater Lincolnshire Nature Partnership said: “Nature-based tourism is one of the fastest growing tourism sectors and around 3 million people go birdwatching every year in the UK.

“Positive sustainable tourism benefits both local economies and the long-term protection of natural areas. This new Bird Trail will hopefully put the County on the map as a major destination when it comes to watching birds and other wildlife.”

Phil Espin, Chair of Lincolnshire Bird Club said “There is a huge appetite to visit these places and see the special species that live there. But many people tell us that without specific knowledge, it is hard to know exactly where to go and when. This new trail aims to provide that inside knowledge so that anyone can come and make the most of what is one of the UK’s best counties for birds and other wildlife.”

Visit Lincolnshire is delighted to extend an invitation to wildlife enthusiasts everywhere to join us on the Lincolnshire Bird Trail to find the best places to go and all the information to get the most out of a visit at any time of year.

And Lincolnshire’s visitor economy businesses can join with celebrating the county’s rich diversity and new nature attraction, too. Free resources and downloadable content is available for all businesses to use on their own websites and social media through the Business Visit Lincolnshire “Tell the Story” pages here.

The Lincolnshire Bird Trail is a partnership between Visit Lincolnshire, Lincolnshire Bird Club, Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust, The RSPB, Natural England, The National Trust and the Greater Lincolnshire Nature Partnership.
