The grounds team usually works closely with the maintenance team and the sales team to make sure specific areas of the site are ready and prepared for any new sitings. Their general role is to look after the park landscape – which includes driveways, pathways, grassed areas, trees, hedges and shrubs ensuring everything remains neat, tidy and in good repair.

The Grounds Manager will generally oversee a small permanent team, bringing in casual labour during the summer months when the work intensifies.

Typical duties will include:
  • Scheduling annual maintenance work on driveways, car parks and pavements (generally this will be scheduled for out of season), liaising with the maintenance team to schedule in any utilities work that will affect the grounds throughout the year.
  • Planning, budgeting and managing any future landscaping projects for the park
  • Create timetables and schedules for grounds workers – including grass cutting, tree and hedge trimming, litter picking and waste collections, maintenance of flower beds
  • Procure and maintain equipment for grounds maintenance services
  • Lead, motivate and train the team
Skills, Experience and Personality Needed:
  • Good customer service skills. Grounds Managers are likely to be liaising with as they go about the park and therefore become part of the guest’s experience
  • Ability to lead and motivate teams
  • Level 2 and 3 Horticultural qualifications are usually sought after, as are general trades skills
  • Driving licence is essential and sometimes a forklift licence may also be required
  • Gas safety for non-engineers is also a desirable qualification to have
Benefits and Considerations:
  • This is a permanent, year-round role with varied and flexible hours – depending on the weather and tasks to be actioned
  • Live in accommodation is often included in the package as are other perks such as subsidised food and access to leisure facilities.
  • It’s common to receive bonuses throughout the year based on the level of service provided
  • Although part of a wider team, the role can be singular and so you must enjoy working on your own
  • This is a physically demanding job – great if you want something to keep you busy and fit, not so great if you have any mobility issues
